Josh Briant aka Cousin Crypto first showed up on our radar last month when TikTok Investors shared his video about buying crypto back in 2016. The video blew up on Crypto Twitter after Charlie Shrem retweeted it which then prompted Josh to create a Twitter account. A month later, he’s already accumulated over 40k followers and has become a fixture within the DeFi community.
We were excited to talk to Josh because he is such a unique personality, especially in DeFi. He brings an unfiltered and entertaining take on the space that can be both hilarious and insightful at the same time. He has a knack for finding hidden gems and getting his followers hyped on the potential gains.
How did you first learn about crypto and what ended up pulling you in so deep?
I first learnt about crypto from friends that were already invested. When I had originally heard of crypto it sounded like a pyramid scheme to be honest, but after doing extensive research I began to learn what it was about, and I guess seeing how decentralized and the potential for it’s use case in the future is what ultimately pulled me in so deep. Being born in Zimbabwe, I’ve seen inflation occur first hand, to me Bitcoin solves many problems one of them being inflation.
What projects are you most excited about right now?
I’m balls deep in OptionRoom ($ROOM) right now. I see this project running up $10 short term, we will see $ROOM as a top 200 coin this year. Apart from $ROOM, I’m about stacking sats; NuCypher ($NU), Scifi Finance ($SPICE), SnowSwap ($SNOW) and DefiCliq ($CLIQ) are a few other projects I expect to see at least 10x by the end of Q2 this year. This is only the beginning, people who have been here are ready and waiting. Those who have not witnessed such greatness before, will never be the same. I do genuinely believe this will be one of the most violent and greatest alt seasons the world has seen.
What is your take on the WallStreetBets, Game Stop, Robinhood situation? Do you think it will have an impact on people migrating to DeFi?
I think the whole wsb situation is really sad. It just goes to show how manipulated the market is. It’s literally rigged and the hedge funds have been spitting out positive returns for years on end, and the second they start loosing money they halt trading. Screams corruption if you ask me. It just proves the point I’m trying to prove. The system is broken. The system needs to be replaced. The solution in my eyes, is blockchain. I think people will definitely flee to crypto after such an embarrassment. I can’t believe we’re not already at $100K Bitcoin after this to be quite honest.
What are the best opportunities right now for turning stimmys to millies?
In my mind, I see opportunities to stack racks all day. We’ve seen it in the past. Micro-cap altcoins go absolutely crazy in a bull run and even better so ICO & IDOs so this is where I believe the real money is. 20x right off the bat with the exchange listing, not a 20% pump on Bitcoin. I specifically try and find micros cap coins to invest in and hold mid term, the end goal is to accumulate more Bitcoin.
Do you have any advice for people who want to start investing in crypto? Where should they begin and what should they avoid?
I think a lot of people hear words like “cryptocurrency” and “blockchain” and get scared, but it’s actually easier than you think. You can get started by simply downloading either Gemini or Coinbase from the App Store, plugging in your info and buying yourself some crypto. As far as what to buy, it simply takes a little research, look at the team, the coins use case, who’s backing it, all of these factors are going to effect the coins future price action.
Any final shoutouts or fuck you’s we should be aware of before we part ways?
Big fuck you to the schooling system. They’re trying to turn kids into robots and it’s so obvious. A lot of people know this and see it happening, yet don’t want to speak up on it. My goal is to make a difference when I have some form of power in the future. I believe the system is so broken so very fucking broken, it’s actually borderline robbery. Today’s world is not the same as it was 20 years ago. Almost everything has changed. However, the way we are taught remains the same. That blows my mind to be honest. All these smart people meant to be running the world and they can’t or refuse to look at what’s right in front of them.
